Palestinian journalist dies of wounds caused by Israeli gunfire: medics

GAZA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian journalist from Gaza, who was critically wounded on April 13 by Israeli army gunfire near eastern Gaza, died Wednesday afternoon in an Israeli hospital, medics said.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the health ministry in Gaza, told reporters that the 26-year-old Palestinian journalist Ahmad Abu Hussein was critically wounded by an Israeli gunshot as he was covering the "Great March of Return" east of Jabalia in northern Gaza Strip.

He was transferred to a hospital in Ramallah then to an Israeli hospital in Jerusalem, and died of his wounds on Wednesday afternoon.

Abu Hussein, who works for a local radio station called al-Sha'b, is the second journalist that killed by Israeli army gunfire since March 30.

Yasser Murtaja, a Palestinian cameraman, was killed three weeks ago also while covering the six-week rallies and protests organized in the Gaza Strip between the eastern areas of the coastal enclave and Israel.

Since March 30, the Israeli army has killed 40 Palestinians and wounded more than 5,000 others.
