WARSAW, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Poland and Slovakia share a common view on the future of the European Union (EU) budget as well as the importance of cohesion policy, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and his Slovakian counterpart Peter Pellegrini stated in Warsaw on Wednesday.
"We believe that we should maintain equal and solidarity access to funds within the next EU budget perspective," Morawiecki said at a press conference, following his meeting with Pellegrini.
Both prime ministers expressed common opinion on the importance of maintaining the cohesion policy, so that people of all the EU member countries could share common living conditions.
Pellegrini underlined the fact that both countries understood the new challenges the EU was facing after Brexit, and were eager to increase their contributions into the EU budget. However, they both agreed that cohesion policy was important, as there were still differences in living standards between "old" and "new" EU members.
The two also emphasized that both Poland and Slovakia were countries "fully supporting the European integration" and underlined the fact that the Visegrad Group was an integral part of the EU, and its aim was to strengthen the European Union. They added that the Visegrad Group countries had similar views on the migration policy.
The topics discussed during the meeting also covered cooperation within NATO, current bilateral issues, regional cooperation as well as security and defense.
Peter Pellegrini's visit to Warsaw on Wednesday was one of his first foreign visits since being appointed as the Slovakian prime minister on March 22.
