JERUSALEM, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Thursday that his country will hit Iran in response to any attack from the Islamic state.

Lieberman made the remark in an interview with the London-based Arabic news site Elaph, ahead of his meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in Washington, where the two are expected to discuss regional issues including Iran's military expansion in Syria.

If Iran attacks Tel Aviv, Israel "will strike Tehran and destroy every Iranian military site that threatens Israel in Syria, whatever the price," he said.

Israel is not interested in a war with any country, but "will not allow Iranian bases in Syria at any price," the Israeli minister added.

Commenting on Israel's ties with Arabs, Lieberman said Israel is holding talks with Arab countries.

"Things are moving in the right direction. There is an understanding of 75 percent of things," he noted.

Israel has so far established no diplomatic relations with Arab countries in the Middle East except Egypt and Jordan.
