SKOPJE, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Macedonia and Iran signed a memorandum of cooperation here on Thursday, vowing to enhance bilateral trade relations.

Branko Azeski, president of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, and Gholamhossein Shafei, chairman of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, highlighted the traditional trade partnership between the two countries while attending a business forum in Macedonia.

Shafei said the two countries need to launch an initiative to facilitate visa issuance and expressed the hope that Macedonia could support Iran's bid to join the World Trade Organization.

"We propose cooperation between private companies in the two countries by setting up joint companies that would produce goods as a joint brand," Shafei added.

Azeski said it is time for Macedonia "to make a step forward and boost cooperation with Iran in many fields."

In 2017, Macedonia imported a total of 4.76 million U.S. dollars worth of goods from Iran and exported 401,000 dollars worth of goods to Iran.
