Tusk vows unconditional help for Macedonia's path in name issue, reform implementation

SKOPJE, April 27 (Xinhua) -- President of European Council Donald Tusk vowed unconditional aid for Macedonia during the implementation of reforms and resolution of the name issue on Friday during his meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

According to Tusk, Macedonia has have all the necessary situations to succeed such as the consensus of the political class for European Union (EU) and NATO membership, as well as determination of Macedonian people.

"With Bulgaria you showed that when there is a will to overcome the problems of the past, there is a way to go to the future, I really hope you can do the same with Greece. You have my firm support, " said Tusk.

Meanwhile, Zaev stressed that Macedonia is determined to persuade the Council to give the country a date for start of negotiations.

"We have never been closer to getting the date for beginning of negotiations," said Zaev.

Moreover, Zaev expressed that the EU summit should confirm the European perspective for EU membership of Western Balkan states and validate concrete projects for the implementation of the Strategy for the Western Balkans.

"Our Summit should first and foremost reaffirm the European perspective of the region. We all have to agree unanimously to face common security challenges, such as emigrant trade, terrorism and organized crime," underlined Tusk.
