YANGON, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Sarpay Beikman, or the House of Literature, is working to publish a new Myanmar Encyclopedia and 100 Myanmar Classics, 64 years after the previous ones came into being in 1954, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Sunday.
An editorial team has been set up to strive for the publication of the first volume by September, Sarpay Beikman Chief Editor U Soe Myint Than was quoted a saying.
Myanmar Classic Publishing Committee Secretary U Zeya also said three novels for 100 Myanmar Classics Volume-1 are in place for printing and 81 novels are being pre-selected for Volume-2 and 3.
The novels are epics from past eras to date, to be followed by poems, short stories, plays and essays, he said, adding that novels will be up to 17 volumes to be published two a month this year.
The concept of publishing the new Myanmar Encyclopedia began in November 2016 and the actual work was started in February 2017.
