SAO PAULO, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Firefighters in Sao Paulo found the body of a young boy on Tuesday morning in the rubble of the Wilton Paes de Almeida building, which collapsed last week after a fire tore through it.

Firefighter spokesperson Marcos Palumbo said that rescue workers were expecting to find other bodies and possible survivors in a new area of the debris.

"We found a small body which showed signs of burning and could be that of a boy. There is evidence that other victims could be found in the same area," said Palumbo in a statement.

Firefighters have been working since the early morning to remove rubble by hand in an area near the building, after finding scraps of clothing there.

Last Friday, the body of Ricardo Oliveira Galvao Pinheiro was identified due to his fingerprints. Around 40 people are still missing.

The building was home to 372 people, most of them low-income families, with authorities believing that the fire began after a domestic fight.

The fire began around 1:30 a.m. on May 1, before spreading rapidly throughout the building and leading to its collapse.
