FUZHOU, May 9 (Xinhua) -- At the closing ceremony of the 17th Gymnasiade at the Marrakech Arena in Morocco, the Gymnasiade flag was passed to the next host city, China's Jinjiang.

The flag was handed over by Laurent Petrynka, president of the International School Sport Federation (ISF), to Liu Wenru, secretary of the Jinjiang municipal CPC committee.

There was also a performance showcasing Minnan culture at the closing ceremony on Tuesday local time. Under the theme "Better Us, Better Future", the artistic show combined the Minnan traditional culture of dancing, music, martial arts and puppet shows, offering up a sincere invitation for the 2020 Gymnasiade in Jinjiang.

Last year, Jinjiang won the right to host the 18th Gymnasiade, an international multisport event for teens organized by the ISF.

The biennial event, also known as the World School Summer Games, was started in Germany in 1974. The 2020 games, to be held in late October, will have 12 competitions including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, football and basketball.
