BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The average consumption expenditure and the median household income in Brunei had been on the rise in 2015-16, compared to 2010-11, the latest government survey released by the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) at the Prime Minister's Office shows.
According to local daily the Borneo Bulletin on Thursday, the average consumption expenditure for a household in Brunei increased by 28 Brunei dollars (21 U.S. dollars) to 2,923 Brunei dollars per month in 2015-16 compared to 2,895 Brunei dollars per month in 2010-11.
In terms of per capita expenditure, the national average was about 472 Brunei dollars per month compared to 457 Brunei dollars per month in 2010-11.
The survey shows that expenditure on housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels was the highest at 988 Brunei dollars per month, or 33.8 percent of the total monthly expenses, followed by expenditure on transport at 379 Brunei dollars per month (13 percent) and food at 364 Brunei dollars per month (12.5 percent).
As for income, the median household income in 2015-16 was 5,611 Brunei dollars per month, representing an increase of 4.2 percent per year from 4,576 Brunei dollars in 2010-11. (1 Brunei dollar equals to 0.67 U.S. dollar)
