U.S.-listed Chinese companies trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, May 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Thursday, with eight of all top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of TAL Education Group surged 5 percent to close at 42 U.S. dollars apiece, the biggest advancer among the 10 stocks. Meanwhile, stocks of Chinese bio-pharmaceutical company BeiGene, Ltd., the biggest laggard, lost 5.28 percent in market closing.

As of Wednesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 3,156.01, marking a 3.08-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 2.10-percent gain for the year-to-date returns.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Thursday as investors pondered over the newly-released economic data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 196.99 points, or 0.80 percent, to 24,739.53. The S&P 500 increased 25.28 points, or 0.94 percent, to 2,723.07. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 65.07 points, or 0.89 percent, to 7,404.97. Enditem
