BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Wang Zhigang will attend the inauguration ceremony of Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio on May 12, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced Friday.

Wang, also minister of science and technology, will go to Sierra Leone's capital city of Freetown at the invitation of Bio, said spokesperson Geng Shuang.

Sierra Leone is an important cooperative partner of China in Africa, Geng said, praising the results of mutually beneficial cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 47 years ago.

"China attaches great importance to the development of China-Sierra Leone ties and stands ready to work with Sierra Leone to enrich the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation and to bring greater benefits to both peoples," Geng said.
