NATO chief to visit U.S. in preparing for summit

BRUSSELS, May 11 (Xinhua) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is scheduled to visit the United States next week in preparing for the bloc's summit, NATO said in a press release Friday.

Stoltenberg will meet U.S. President Donald Trump from May 16-18, as part of NATO chief's consultations with Allies in the run-up to the summit in July.

Stoltenberg will also have talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Secretary of Defense James Mattis, National Security Advisor John Bolton, and other senior officials.

NATO summit will be held on July 11 in Brussels.

"We will further strengthen the bond between Europe and North America on which our Alliance is founded, as we continue to adapt our Alliance for the 21st century," Stoltenberg said when he announced the date for summit.
