WARSAW, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Enhancing cooperation between Poland and China was one of the most important issues discussed during the 5th International Asian Congress held in Torun, northern Poland on May 9-11.

"Not only is this event important for our region, but also for the whole Poland," said Piotr Calbecki, marshal of Kuiavian-Pomeranian province, at the opening ceremony.

Kuiavian-Pomeranian province partners with China's Hubei province, and Calbecki mentioned how great the inter-regional cooperation was between the two.

According to Pawel Milewski, head of Asia-Pacific department at the Polish foreign affairs ministry, the Asia and Pacific region is one of main directions for the Polish foreign policy.

He said he was hoping for more bilateral investments, more cooperation in the field of tourism and increasing the social-cultural exchange and cooperation.

Earlier in the conference, Liu Lijuan, an official with Chinese Embassy in Poland, reminded that in recent years, economic and trade relations between China and Poland have developed rapidly. Last year, Poland was China's eighth largest trading partner in the EU and the largest trading partner in the CEE region.

"I believe that China and Poland can join hands and work together to achieve even more brilliant results under the Belt and Road Initiative," Liu said.

The Congress is an international scientific and organizational event that attracts hundreds of scholars, researchers, experts and entrepreneurs interested in Asian issues and in Poland's relations with Asian countries.
