Tokyo stocks close higher on Wall Street's rebound, softer yen

TOKYO, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday as investor sentiment was lifted by Wall Street's overnight rebound and a softer yen against the U.S. dollar giving exporters a boost.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 121.14 points, or 0.53 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,838.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 8.02 points, or 0.45 percent, to finish at 1,808.37.

Fishery, agriculture and forestry, oil and coal product, and glass and ceramic product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
