One killed, five injured in suicide blast in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and five others injured in a suicide blast in Nowshera city of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The district police officer of Nowshera said that a suicide bomber exploded his explosive-laden vest near a vehicle of the Frontier Constabulary, a paramilitary force, at the Kachehry Chowk area of the city.

Police, security forces and rescues teams rushed to the site, shifted the body and injured to the Combined Military Hospital in the city.

The identity of the deceased person is not known yet. However, police said at least three security personnel are among the injured persons.

Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the city.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Earlier on Wednesday night, at least one military officer and three terrorists, including the provincial head of a banned outfit, were killed during a search and hit operation in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province.
