CANBERRA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Australian federal government has donated 10,000 Australian doallars (7,500 U.S. dollars) to the Sydney Invictus Games as a wedding present to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull took to social media on Saturday to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ahead of the royal ceremony at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom.

"Congratulations Harry & Meghan on your wedding day. Australia will also be making a donation to Invictus in honour of your wedding! With our very best wishes for a long and happy life together, Malcolm and Lucy."

Harry, who served in the British Army for ten years including two tours of Afghanistan started the Invictus Games in 2014 for wounded and ill veterans and military service people.

The donation to the games supports better care and recognition for military personnel.

Turnbulls Facebook post also featured a picture of two young Australian lifesavers modelling the Akubra Hats which will be presented to the royal couple when they arrive in Sydney for the 2018 games in October.

The 2014 edition was held in London, followed by games in Orlando, US, and Toronto, Canada.

In a media release to endorse the games, Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said last year: The Invictus Games represent all that is good about sport. We are proud to be able to support these incredible athletes to come to Australia and compete.

On Friday, the NSW government announced two new-born koalas at Taronga Zoo would be named after the royal couple.

Although the gender isnt yet known, one will be Meghan and one will be Harry.
