MADRID, May 21 (Xinhua) -- SD Huesca made history when the club from the north of Spain won their first ever promotion to the Spanish Liga Santander on Monday night.

The club won 2-0 in Lugo to assure they are promoted to the Spanish top flight with two games remaining in the current season in the Spanish second division (Liga 123).

Goals from Alex Gallar and Jorge Pullido put Huesca 2-0 up by halftime, although they had to replace goalkeeper Alex Remiro with Roberto Santamaria after Remiro was left groggy for saving a shot with his head.

Lugo pressed hard in the second half, but were unable to beat Santamaria.

Huesca are coached by Juan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi' who has previously worked with clubs such as Valladolid and Levante and last year spent a spell at Sporting Gijon although he was unable to prevent their relegation from the top flight.

Sunday sees the penultimate round of matches in the Liga 123 with Madrid based Rayo Vallecano favorites to confirm their place in the top-flight if they are able to win their home game, which is also against Lugo.

Two teams win direct promotion from the Liga 123, and the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th finishers enter play-offs for the final place.
