Tokyo stocks fall on Trump's remarks on U.S.-DPRK summit, stronger yen

TOKYO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning on caution regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's latest remarks on the upcoming U.S.-Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) summit, and the yen's rise.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 247.96 points, or 1.08 percent, from Tuesday to 22,712.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 11.54 points, or 0.64 percent, at 1,798.03.

Mining, oil and coal product, and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
