KIEV, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and three others injured on Wednesday in a road accident in Ukraine's western Lviv region, authorities said.
The accident happened at about 7:24 a.m. local time (0424 GMT), when a minibus collided with a truck on a road near the village of Verblyany, the State Service for Emergencies said in a statement.
Six people died on the spot, while three others -- all young men -- were hospitalized with various injuries, the statement said.
According to local media, the minibus was carrying Ukrainians traveling home from the Czech Republic.
The cause of the accident has not been established yet.
In the first quarter of 2018, some 500 people were killed and about 5,500 others injured in about 35,000 road accidents in Ukraine, according to official data. Speeding and violation of road safety rules were the main causes of those accidents.
