STOCKHOLM, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The warmer than usual days lately in early summer in Sweden may indicate a record year for Swedish strawberries, Swedish TV reported on Sunday.

For several weeks it has been unusually hot in the country for the season. Experts and growers believe that there will be a record year in volume for the Swedish strawberries.

"Now most strawberries are still green and we have not started picking yet. But as it looks now, we will start picking up next week, said Bitte Wilson, with 20 years' experience growing strawberries. She predicts Swedes are likely to have Swedish strawberries on national day (June 6).

"Yes, as it looks now, there will be Swedish strawberries in the market (on national day)," Bitte Wilson said.

Magnus Engstedt has worked as a garden consultant at the County Administrative Board for over 40 years. According to him, it may be a record year in volume for the Swedish strawberries.

"In volume it will surely be there, then the weather can change, but there are good chances for growers to get a total harvest that is very big this year," he told Swedish TV.
