NEW DELHI, May 28 (Xinhua) -- India's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team has won this year's multi-billion-dollar Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketing tournament.

CSK of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad team of the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh by eight wickets in the final match in Mumbai Sunday night to clinch its third IPL title.

Chasing 179 for victory, CSK achieved its target in just 18.3 overs with eight wickets in hand, all thanks to its ace batsman Shane Watson's whirlwind unbeaten knock of 117 in only 57 balls amid loud cheers from its fans.

Earlier, CSK captain M.S. Dhoni won the toss and offered the rivals to bat first. Sunrisers Hyderabad made 178 for 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

"No plans to celebrate as of now. We are going to Chennai tomorrow (Monday), meet a few people, the fans and some people who are close to the franchise. But we'll have a get-together in the hotel and celebrate," Dhoni, a former Indian cricket team captain, told the media.

CSK also won the tournament in 2010 and 2011 and were runners-up in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2015. The team returned to play only this year, after a two-year suspension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India over a corruption scandal.

IPL is said to be the world's showcase for Twenty20 cricket. Top Indian and international players take part, making it one of the world's most-watched cricket tournaments.
