MOSCOW, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Kremlin on Tuesday shrugged off Israel granting citizenship to Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner of the British Chelsea football club.

"A businessman has every right to get Israeli citizenship," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a daily news briefing.

Earlier in the day, Israeli media reported that Abramovich, who is Jewish, arrived in Israel on Monday and received the documents confirming his Israeli citizenship.

Russian and western media reported this month that the British authorities delayed extending Abramovich's visa and linked it to the recent spat between London and Moscow over the alleged poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Britain.

The Israeli passport allows its holder to travel to Britain and some other countries without a visa.

According to Forbes, Abramovich's net worth is 11.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2018, making him the 11th in the Forbes' list of 200 richest Russians.
