LISBON, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese parliament voted against decriminalizing medically-assisted death on Tuesday.

Lawmakers voted on four separate euthanasia bills, none of which managed to get a majority of votes in favor from the 230 members of parliament.

The Socialist Party (PS) proposal came closest, with 110 votes in favor, 115 against and 4 abstentions.

The People Animals and Nature Party (PAN) motion scored 107 votes in favor, 116 against and 11 abstentions. Proposals from the Left Block (BE) and Greens (PEV) each drew 104 votes in favor, 117 against and 8 abstentions.

Each bill was slightly different, but all advocated that people of adult age (over 18) declared to be sound of mind could request, through a doctor, medically-assisted death if suffering from an incurable illness.
