Second stage of major military drills begins in western Russia

MOSCOW, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The second stage of the Seaborne Assault 2018 all-army competition started at the Khmelevka training ground of the Baltic Fleet in the Tver region in the west of Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

According to the rules of the all-army competition, marine units in full gear are set to cross a 3.5-km course equipped with 20 obstacles, when participants are required to hit targets by small arms and grenade launchers, cross simulated contaminated area in individual protection equipment and compete in medical training, a ministry statement said.

The seven-day competition has brought together more than 200 marines and cadets representing the Baltic, Northern, Black Sea and Pacific fleets, as well as teams of Caspian Flotilla, Far Eastern Higher Command School, and Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School, according to the ministry.

Within the three stages of the competition, participants will cross over 30 obstacles while demonstrating their skills in operating weapons of armored personnel carriers and individual small arms, the ministry said.

The winners of the all-army competition will represent Russia at the Seaborne Assault international competition among marines within the framework of the International Army Games 2018 to be held in China, it said.
