WASHINGTON, June 8 (Xinhua) -- The White House announced Friday that Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will visit the White House and meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania there later in June.

"As their majesties visit the United States to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the founding of the great American cities of New Orleans, Louisiana, and San Antonio, Texas, we will recognize the historical ties between the United States and Spain that serve as a foundation for our deep partnership and friendship today," the White House said in a statement.

The Spanish royals are expected to be at the White House on June 19, the last day of a six-day U.S. trip, after stays in New Orleans and San Antonio, the Spanish Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

The royal couple will be accompanied during the trip by the new Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, it said.

The Spanish king and queen last visited the White House in 2015, where they met with then U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.
