DOHA, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Qatar and Oman have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in the education and science fields, the state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Monday.

The agreement was signed in Doha by a senior official of Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Omani envoy in Qatar Najeeb bin Yahya al Balushi, QNA said.

"This MoU reaffirms that the relations between the two countries will see greater development in the coming phase," the Qatari official said.

Under the deal, the two countries will focus on the exchange of experiences in the transfer of science, knowledge and modern technology.

The agreement includes training of researchers and joint organization of exhibitions, seminars and scientific forums, as well as the exchange of information on all diplomas and degrees issued by institutions of higher education in both countries.

In Qatar crisis, Oman appears as neutral and tries to mediate and has opened its ports to Qatari ships after Saudi Arabia prevented goods from entering Doha since June 5 when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of bankrolling Islamist extremist groups and being too close to Iran.

Doha has dismissed the allegations as an attempt to interfere with its sovereignty.
