Belarus registers deflation in May

MINSK, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Belarus registered deflation in May, the National Statistical Committee of Belarus reported on Monday.

The Statistical Committee said consumer prices for goods and services in May decreased by 0.3 percent compared with April 2018.

In May, prices for non-food products and prices for food products fell by 0.03 percent and 0.6 percent respectively compared with April. However, price for services went up by 0.1 percent, the committee said.

Compared with December 2017, consumer prices rose by 2.5 percent in May 2018.

The Belarusian government plans to limit inflation to within 6 percent this year.

In 2017, inflation fell to a record low of 4.6 percent from 10.6 percent in 2016 and 12 percent in 2015.
