ISTANBUL, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Turkish and Bulgarian prime ministers on Tuesday pledged efforts to revive the Silk Road in a best possible way.

"As Bulgaria we fulfill our commitments," Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said in meeting with his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim in Turkey's western city of Izmir, according to CNNTurk, a private broadcaster.

Borisov said that his country will continue to improve relations with Turkey, especially in the fields of energy and transportation under the Silk Road project.

In his speech, Yildirim said the construction of a high-speed train project will start in a few months in Turkey as part of the trans-European transport network.

"The historic Silk Road will be revived from Istanbul to Edirne on a 232-kilometer-long line as part of a railway project that will connect the Balkans with the Far East," said Yildirim.

Edirne is a province in northwestern Turkey that borders Greece and Bulgaria.

According to Yildirim, Turkey will further improve transit connections with Bulgaria via highways and railways.

The delegations of Turkey and Bulgaria are scheduled to attend the inauguration of a Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline project that will carry Azeri gas to Europe.

Around 10 billion cubic meters of Azeri gas will be transported to Europe per year via Turkey through the pipeline, said Yildirim.
