OTTAWA, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited Canada from June 10 to 13 at the invitation of the Canadian Parliament to boost bilateral relations.

Wang, also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met separately with Canadian Senate Speaker George J. Furey and Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, and had a working talk with House Deputy Speaker Bruce Stanton.

Currently, Wang said, China-Canada relationship is undergoing stable development as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian leaders have reached important consensus through frequent meetings, charting direction for the development of bilateral ties.

He said the NPC is willing to work with the Canadian Parliament to implement the consensus and continue to give full play to the role of the mechanism of regular exchanges between the two parliaments so as to help promote the in-depth development of the China-Canada strategic partnership.

The Canadian side said that Canada attaches great importance to the development of Canadian-Chinese relations and is ready to strengthen cooperation in economy, free trade, education, tourism, environmental protection and legislation, to name a few.

In Vancouver, Wang also met Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Janet Austin, Premier John Horgan and Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.
