WASHINGTON, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The filming of a sequel for superhero blockbuster "Wonder Woman" is underway in Georgetown, a historic neighborhood and commercial district in D.C., bringing road closures on Thursday.

Police said that Wisconsin Avenue between Volta Place and M Street will be closed in the day until 8:00 p.m. as crew film scenes for "Wonder Woman 1984."

Local reports say film crew have recreated Commander Salamander, a popular punk shop store that operated in the neighborhood during the 80s and 90s.

Other filming has taken place briefing across Washington, D.C., according to social media posts, with some scenes shot near the U.S. Treasury building on Tuesday.

The movie will also film in northern Virginia, the state's governor Ralph Northam announced Wednesday.

"Wonder Woman 1984," directed by Patty Jenkins, again stars Gal Gadot in the lead role, alongside Chris Pine, Kristin Wiig and Pedro Pascal.

The movie, based on the DC Comics character Wonder Woman, is scheduled for release on Nov. 1, 2019.
