Egypt releases 3,477 prisoners on Feast occasion

CAIRO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi announced on Friday a presidential pardon for 2,110 prisoners, the interior ministry reported in a statement on its Facebook official page.

The decree came at the beginning of the three-day Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday that comes at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

The Prison Sector of the Egyptian Ministry of Interior has also conditionally released 1,367 prisoners, the statement said.

Usually, the president issues a decree for pardoning prisoners on public holidays and feasts, including two religious Muslims feasts, holy month of Ramadan and the 23 July Revolution anniversary.

On May 16, Egyptian President Sisi pardoned 330 imprisoned young people on the eve of Ramadan.
