JALALABAD, Afghanistan, June 16 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were killed and 30 others wounded in a blast in a crowd celebrating ceasefire during Eid festival in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Saturday, a provincial government spokesman said.

The incident occurred in the afternoon after an explosive material in a Taliban vehicle detonated accidently during the gathering on the outskirts of provincial capital Jalalabad city, Attaullah Khogyani told Xinhua, citing initial information.

Those among the victims were Taliban militants, civilians and members of Afghan security forces.

The Afghan government and Taliban agreed for a temporary ceasefire during Eid-ul-Fitar, the second largest Muslim festival.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals and several vehicles were also damaged in the explosion, he said.

Earlier on Saturday, in a surprise move, hundreds of Taliban fighters entered big Afghan cities to celebrate the Eid holidays with Afghan security forces.

Afghan Interior Ministry Waiz Ahmad Barmak also met and talked with Taliban militants in western Kabul on Saturday, according to local media reports.
