Brunei's royal palace receives over 110,000 visitors in 3-day opening

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 18 (Xinhua) -- More than 110,000 people visited Istana Nurul Iman, Brunei's royal palace during the "Open Palace" Hari Raya celebration, which lowered its curtain on Monday.

Istana Nurul Iman sees a total of 110,828 visitors in the three-day opening, marking the peak in recent years since 2012, when 110,728 people greeted the royal family.

On the first day of this year's opening, 35,613 visitors were recorded and 42,921 visitors on the second day. On the last day, 32,294 people visited Istana Nurul Iman in conjunction with this year's Hari Raya celebration.

As a country with around 400,000 population, Brunei has kept the tradition to open its royal palace to the public for more than three decades during the annual Muslim festival of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, to enable Bruneians and tourists to meet and convey their greetings to the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as well as other members of the royal family.

According to official statistics, the palace received over 102,660 visitors during the "Open Palace" celebration in 2017, and 100,802 visitors in 2016 compared to 109,642 people in 2015.
