NAY PYI TAW, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The 55th Myanmar Gems Emporium kicked off here Wednesday, with Myanmar's Vice President U Henry Van Thio and other officials being present at the opening of the 10-day event.
Over 3,100 gems merchants from China, Thailand, Canada and the United States are attending the event, of whom the majority are from China, while 1,203 are local gems traders.
Pearls, gems and jade lots will be sold under an open tender system and transactions done in euros. Putting on sale are 6,795 jade lots, 336 gem lots and 360 pearl lots.
There are more than 10 exhibition booths at the Mani Yadana Hall. A special sale booth for pearls is added, while it was absent in the last three occasions, said U Than Zaw Oo, vice chairman of the emporium central committee.
