WASHINGTON, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A 22-year-old man has been taken in custody in southeastern state of Florida on charges including first-degree murder of controversial rapper XXXTentacion, local authorities said Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Dedrick Devonshay Williams, was arrested Wednesday night in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff's office announced in a statement.

Williams is suspected of fatally shooting the 20-year-old rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, outside a motorcycle dealership in a random robbery on Monday. Other charges include grand theft of a vehicle and operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license.

In a previous statement, the sheriff said the rapper was accosted by two armed suspects in a random robbery as he left the store.

XXXTentacion, often described as one of the most controversial rapper-singers, had been awaiting trial on charges including aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, false imprisonment and witness tampering, according to local media reports.

On Tuesday, users of Spotify, a digital music service supplier, streamed XXXTentacion's music 10.4 million times around the world in a tribute, breaking the record set last year by Taylor Swift for the most streams of an artist on a single day.
