Mt. Shinmoe volcano in southwestern Japan erupts again: JMA

TOKYO, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Mt. Shinmoe, which straddles Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures, erupted again at 9:09 a.m. local time on Friday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

According to the JMA, the violent eruption at Mt. Shinmoe caused plumes of smoke and volcanic ash to be spewed 2,300 meters in to the air from its crater.

The JMA opted to maintain its alert level at the volcano at 3, on its scale which peaks at 5, which warns of approaching the 1,421-meter high volcano.
