THE HAGUE, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Mark van Bommel will take over from Phillip Cocu as head coach of PSV, with the latter leaving for Turkish giants Fenerbahce, the Dutch football club announced on Friday.

Last week, Cocu informed PSV of his desire to leave the club. The 47-year-old former Dutch international will sign a multi-year contract at Fenerbahce. Cocu was appointed PSV coach in 2013 and won three Dutch league titles, including this year's, as well as two Dutch Super Cups and one Dutch Cup.

41-year-old Van Bommel is currently in Russia for the World Cup, serving as assistant to Australia's head coach Bert van Marwijk. After the Socceroos' final match, he will return to Eindhoven to sign a three-year deal and begin his new job.

From 1999 to 2005, Van Bommel was a key player for PSV, with whom he won four Dutch league titles. He also played the final season of his career at the club in 2012/13, after stints at FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan, and more recently worked as a youth coach at PSV after hanging up his boots.
