LISBON, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was discharged from a hospital in the northern city of Braga on Saturday, local media reported.
Rebelo de Sousa felt a slight discomfort earlier on Saturday after a visit to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus in Braga, some 360 km north of Lisbon. He was first transported by security guards to a nearby hotel and then to the Hospital of Braga as a precaution following medical advise.
The president's discomfort is due to the excessive heat inside the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus when he was staying there.
The visit to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus was part of the president's presence at the Sao Joao de Braga Festivities in Braga. He had planned to spend the entire Saturday in the city. His agenda scheduled for the weekend will be changed.
However, the president told reporters that he can not "call into question his Tuesday visit" to the United States, where he will meet President Donald Trump.
