BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Monday, dragged down by the financial sector.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 1.05 percent to end at 2,859.34 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.9 percent lower at 9,324.83 points
Combined turnover stood at 307.9 billion yuan (47.1 billion U.S. dollars), up from 299.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.
More than 1,000 shares on the two bourses lost, with the financial sector leading the decline.
The sub-index for the financial sector declined 1.86 percent, followed by a 1.47-percent decrease in the cement sector and 1.42-percent drop in the home appliance sector.
China Pacific Insurance lost 3.58 percent to close at 32.86 yuan per share, and Ping An Bank dropped 3.96 percent to close at 9.46 yuan per share.
The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.72 percent to close at 1,538.56 points Monday.
