JAKARTA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The anti-terror squad of Indonesian police has gunned down two alleged militants and nabbed 11 others in West Java province as they secretly planned to stage strikes during the polls at the end of the month, national police chief General Tito Karnavian said Monday.
In a crackdown on the alleged terrorists, police conducted the arrests in several parts of the province at weekend, the general revealed.
"A total of 13 people were captured, two were shot dead due to their resistance," General Karnavian said at the police headquarters.
The 13 had allegedly planned to launch attacks in some polling stations as the voters will be casting their vote, Karnavian noted.
"We have long detected the movement of this cell, and there were some of whom insisted on disturbing the elections, so that we launched a crackdown on them," Karnavian added.
Polls in West Java province is set to be held on June 27.
