ASADABAD, Afghanistan, June 25 (Xinhua) -- At least six Islamic State (IS) fighters were killed and three others injured during the military operations in Kunar province in east of Afghanistan on Sunday, provincial police chief Haqnawaz Haqyar said Monday.

"Afghan security and defense forces launched military operations in Wata Pur district of Kunar province on Sunday, killing at least six IS militants and injuring three others," Haqyar told Xinhua.

The operations will continue to eliminate the IS insurgents in the restive Kunar province, the official asserted.

The hardliner IS group has yet to make comment.

Similarly, six more IS fighters were killed in the neighboring Nangarhar province after unmanned plane targeted the militant group's hideout in Haska Mina district on Sunday night.
