JAKARTA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Mount Anak Krakatau (child of Krakatau) situated in Sunda Strait of western Indonesia spewed a column of volcanic ash into the air on Monday, a disaster management official said.
The volcanic sands along with the ash erupted from the crater of Mount Anak Krakatau, which is located between Indonesia's main islands of Sumatra and Java, spokesman of national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.
The volcanic activities have risen since June 18, but its alert level remains the third highest with no-go zone in the radius of 1 km from the crater, he told Xinhua in a text message.
No warning was issued for the aviation and sea transport, Sutopo said.
