SAN FRANCISCO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- An ongoing traveling exhibit at a museum in the U.S. state of Alaska is offering American children a direct glimpse of the daily life of their peers in China.
The exhibit, "Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China," follows four young Chinese students through their daily lives in their rural or urban settings and offers cultural insights such as exploring Chinese theater, Tai Chi, and Chinese foods and languages, the Fairbanks daily News-Miner reported Thursday.
The show, currently on display at the Fairbanks Children's Museum through the end of September, set up hands-on stations where Fairbanks children can touch, play and interact with the displays.
During the exhibition, the museum also rolled out Chinese-related education programs for the Alaska children to learn more about Chinese culture, such as the ancient terracotta sculptures, and playing the Connect Four-style game of Wuziqi, or Five in a Row, which is a popular abstract strategy board game played with black and white stones among Chinese children.
"This is the first day we've seen it all together, and it's amazing," Education and Outreach Coordinator Jessica Farr said of the workings of each hands-on station that the kids will interact during the "Children of Hangzhou" week.
"It encourages families to experience it together," she added.
Executive Director Brenda Riley of the museum said that the exhibit is also of much appeal to adults because "it's so tech savvy and interesting and interactive."
"It's a slice of life, a piece from China," Riley said.
