NEW DELHI, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A Delhi-bound passenger plane made an emergency landing Wednesday at an airport in the western Indian state of Gujarat following a sudden drop in cabin pressure, airline officials said.

The aircraft of low-cost private carrier SpiceJet, carrying over 100 people including crew members, landed at the Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, minutes after taking off from Mumbai for the Indian capital, according to the airline.

"SpiceJet Boeing 737 aircraft (VT-SZB) was operating flight SG 160 Mumbai-Delhi. Enroute, the aircraft had a (cabin) pressure problem. Following the standard operating procedure, the crew diverted the aircraft to Ahmedabad, where it landed safely," a SpiceJet spokesperson told the media.

All the passengers on board were safe, the spokesperson added.

Sources said that the country's civil aviation regulator has been informed about the emergency landing of the passenger aircraft.

"The Directorate of Civil Aviation is likely to soon order a probe into the incident," sources added.
