ISLAMABAD, July 6 (Xinhua) -- A court in Pakistan on Friday sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in jail in a corruption case, lawyers said.

The Accountability Court, Pakistan's anti-corruption court, ruled that Nawaz Sharif owned assets beyond income and concealed property abroad, a prosecution lawyer Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi, told the media after the verdict was delivered.

Sharif, the three times prime minister, was also awarded one-year in prison for "not cooperating" with the National Accountability Bureau or NAB, Pakistan's anti-graft body.

Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz was also awarded seven-year jail term, Abbasi said.

The court imposed 8 million pounds penalty on Nawaz Sharif and 2 million pounds fine on Maryam Nawaz.

Nawaz Sharif's son-in-law Mohammad Safdar was also awarded one year sentence.

NAB had earlier said Nawaz Sharif and his family members had acquired four flats in Avenfield House, Park Lane, London but had not disclosed the property.

Judge of the court ordered confiscation of the flats, according to the verdict.

Abbasi said Nawaz Sharif has the right to challenge the verdict in superior judiciary within 10 days.

Nawaz Sharif was not in the court when the judge announced the verdict. He is in London to look after his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, who suffers from cancer.

The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) party rejected the verdict as "political motivated."

The Friday's verdict was one of the three corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family.
