HANOI, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Police of Vietnam's northern Son La province have detained eight local people, and confiscated 24 cakes of heroin, 4 kg of crystal methamphetamine, many additives used to make synthetic drugs, and a military handgun.
Police officers on Thursday and Friday raided four drug-making facilities built by a 37-year-old man named Ha Van Thanh, arrested him and seven involved aged 17-44, and seized the drugs, the provincial police announced on Saturday.
According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
