7 injured as convoy of political leader attacked in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, July 7 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were injured when a bomb went off near a convoy of a political leader in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, local reports said.

The candidate, Malik Shireen of the religious party Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, was on his way to address a public gathering with his supporters when their convoy was hit by the explosion in Bannu area. He was campaigning for his party for the forthcoming general election slated on July 25.

The injured, including the leader himself, were shifted to a nearby hospital.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for investigations.
