BERLIN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Sporting director Ralf Rangnick will coach Leipzig for the upcoming season, the Bundesliga club confirmed in a press conference on Monday.

Ralf Rangnick will return to his double function as coach and sporting director for the season 2018-2019 before Julian Nagelsmann joins from Hoffenheim next season.

"We have worked together for a long time and have now found the best solution to continue on our successful path," Leipzig president Oliver Mintzlaff said.

The 60-year-old sporting director was already in charge as Leipzig's coach and helped the club to secure their first ever Bundesliga promotion in 2016.

After the surprising departure of former head coach Ralph Hasenhuettl in May, Leipzig signed Julian Nagelsmann for the 2019-2020 campaign. Hence, an interims solution for the upcoming season was needed.

"It was a decision we had to think over. We have decided that I will take on the coaching role, with the help of the best possible coaching staff," Rangnick said.

The club announced that Jesse March has agreed to terms on a two-year deal as assistant coach for Ralf Rangnick.

The "Bulls" completed the Bundesliga season 2017-2018 on the 6th place of the standings and secure a ticket for next season's UEFA Europa League group stage.
