Indonesian ferry runs aground in Singapore waters

SINGAPORE, July 10 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian-flagged ferry, SRI KANDI 99, ran aground on a rock bund at the southern tip of Pulau Tekong in Singapore waters on Monday, according to Singaporean Ministry of Communications and Information on Tuesday afternoon.

The press release said the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore received the accident report at 11:42 p.m. on Monday.

It said the ferry was carrying 34 passengers, including 33 Malaysians and one Vietnamese, and 11 Indonesian crew while running aground.

All the 45 people onboard were safe, and the passengers were subsequently transferred to another ferry. The crew are assisting with the investigations.

The press release said there are no reports of injury or oil pollution, and the owner is making arrangements to re-float the ferry.

It added that the MPA is investigating the incident.
