SKOPJE, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The number of passengers traveling from the two airports in Macedonia in the first half of 2018 registered an annual increase of 21 percent compared to the same period last year, TAV Macedonia, the company operating the airports in Skopje and Ohrid reported in a press release.

According to TAV information, the number of flights at the two Macedonian airports from January until June marked an annual rise of 16 percent and a total of 1,041,583 passengers were handled in the two airports.

"This positive trend in air traffic growth confirms that the Macedonian aviation market has big potentials," TAV General manager Alper Ersoy declared.

TAV Macedonia officials expect air traffic growth with similar pace until the end of the year considering the new destinations promoted in the two airports in the beginning of the summer season 2018.

Wizz Air company transported the highest number of passengers in this period with 63.3 percent of the market share, followed by Turkish airlines with 8.1 percent.

Ohrid airport promoted four new seasonal destinations, Istanbul, Eindhoven, Tallinn, and Warsaw.

Meanwhile, Skopje international airport is connected with 38 destinations, operated by 13 airlines.
